What To Expect With Your Session With A Hypnotist

As a hypnotist living and working in Miami Beach Florida, I see various types of clients daily who are each looking to improve various aspects of their mental and physical health.  Whether it be to boost self esteem, to lose 40 pounds, or to finally take their relationships and career to the next level, hypnosis contains the solutions to all the riddles the clients have yet to solve.

As someone who has upgraded their life and well being in numerous ways utilizing the power of hypnosis, and as a hypnotist himself I know what most don’t, hypnosis sessions are safe, fun, and ultimately lead to growth and success.

As a hypnotist I often get asked many of the same questions:

Is hypnosis scary?

Can hypnotherapy detract from the quality of my life?

Will I be out of control and unaware of my actions while I am in hypnosis?

Well, believe me, before I embarked on my hypnotic journey I had many of the same questions.

In the following text I am going to provide you with an illustration about the hypnotic process.  I’m going to guide you through a typical experience both before, during, and after a hypnotherapy session.  I will provide answers to many of the questions you may have regarding what a hypnosis session looks, sounds, and feels like.

You will learn that hypnosis is not only safe and fun, but most importantly… effective.

Client Intake

As a hypnotist, before I meet or speak with any clients I require them to fill out an intake form.  The information they submit is a generalized summary of the issues they are experiencing.  This snapshot provides both the client and myself with a starting point for discussion when the consultation is eventually undertaken.

Information for the form is often basic contact info, combined with questions designed to orient the client for change:

What is your goal?

What have you done to address this?

What is going to be different in your life as a result of achieving this goal?

What has been holding you back from achieving this change?

What motivated you now to reach out and pursue this change?

What are the seven benefits you hope to obtain by working with Brad?

Are you willing to experience uncomfortable emotions (temporarily) in order to release them fully, leading to the removal of your old outdated negative programming, habits, thoughts, compulsions, and behaviors?

Etc.

As a hypnotist it is important that I provide my prospective client the opportunity to look inward and fully develop a narrative for where they are, and where they would like to go.  In doing so I the hypnotist as well as the client allow for clarity providing a clear path for change.

Consultation

Once the intake form is filled out and completed, the client is then able to schedule a consultation where we have a chance to speak further about the issues they are facing.  Consultations are typically performed on a 20-30 minute phone call which gives both the client and I the opportunity to discuss their pressing needs further.

Valuable information is gathered during the consultation with extrapolates and further clarifies each issue.  Information such as when the problem started, or how their parents, friends, family, or even past helped shape them into the person they are today (both positively and negatively).  Traumas and dramas are uncovered and discussed, fully providing I the hypnotist both the reasons for the cause, and the necessary blueprint for change the client must then receive.

5-PATH

Brad Plotkin Hypnotherapy utilizes the amazing healing method of 5-PATH hypnosis.  Created by Cal Banyan, and the only system accredited and backed by the national guild of hypnotists, 5-PATH hypnosis is the leading edge of healing therapies where any and all issues can be uprooted and dissolved.

The power lies in the systematic phase by phase 5-PATH process, which is designed to address and upgrade 3 powerful aspects of the self that may be driving destructive behavior and/or keeping clients dwelling and suffering in negativity:

  • The removal of fears, sadness, and anxieties brought on by the misconceptions of the child or the younger self.

  • The removal of anger which can only be eliminated by fully forgiving those who have caused us pain or wronged us along our human journey.

  • The elimination of guilt towards the self for all the mistakes and errors one has made out of either ignorance, or an attempt for self preservation.

Once the emotions and the inherent beliefs associated with them are eliminated, clients are able to improve their life in any and every aspect.

5-PATH hypnosis does not mean or imply 5 sessions, even though a specific client may only require 5 sessions to complete the 5-PATH and heal.  5-PATH clients may require 6, 7, or even 8 sessions to fully alleviate issues.  The beauty of the 5-PATH process is that clients are not able to move on to each phase until healing has been accomplished.  This systematic approach ensures that clients are growing, healing, and changing through each hypnotic session.

The Pre-Talk

Hypnotherapy sessions are typically divided into two segments, the pre-talk and the hypnotic experience.  As a hypnotist, I find the pre-talk to be just as crucial and beneficial as the hypnosis sessions themselves.

During the pre-talk clients are provided an opportunity to provide feedback to the hypnotist vital information, such as how they have been feeling since the last session, as well as what the experience was like for them while they were in hypnosis during the last session.

This feedback during the pre-talk is crucial for providing the hypnotist with clarity on where sticking points and issues may still exist, as well as the blueprint for how to proceed with that days session.

The Hypnosis

After the pre-talk has taken place and the hypnotist reviews all relevant information required for moving forward during the next hypnotic session, the client is then moved into what I refer to as the “big chair”.  The big chair is a soft and comfortable recliner where clients are made to feel comfortable, relaxed, at ease, and supported.

At this point as a hypnotist I will use what are known as “inductions” in order to put my client into a hypnotic state.  Inductions can be short and rapid, requiring only 3-8 seconds of time, or lengthier and drawn out which is designed to soothe and “relax” the client into the hypnotic state.  Relaxation is not required in order to put the client into a trance state, however relaxation does enable trance.

When the client achieves the hypnotic state, this is when the client and hypnotist then work together to achieve the long lasting and permanent change the client is seeking.

Direct Suggestion

As a hypnotist, each and every session I administer what is known as direct suggestion hypnosis.  Direct Suggestion is the process of providing the clients verbally with the simple changes they wish to make.  While in the hypnotic state, this is when clients are open to suggestions which can permanently imbedded deep into their subconscious mind leading to lasting change.

Some examples of direct suggestions are as follows:

  • “You will find it easy and effortless to make healthy food choices that not only taste good but provide your body with the healthy nutrients it requires and deserves”

  • “You are going to feel better and better in situations that you used to find stressful”

  • “Your body is going to feel relaxed and confident when speaking with others, wether in formal, personal, or business settings”

The key to effective direct suggestion is to provide the client with the specific verbiage illustrating the changes they want to make.  Which of course is very simple yet very effective.

This is why hypnosis cannot alter anybodies perceptions in a negative manner.  The subconscious mind of the client is ready to receive the changes they are allowing hypnotherapy to provide, which means anything else that is said that does not align with their goals are ultimately rejected and dismissed by the subconscious.

For example, using direct suggestion if I informed the client “you will now have a distaste for anybody you meet who appears to not have the same lineage and ancestry as you” there is a 0% chance this will take effect, as the client clearly did not seek hypnosis to become a hateful person.

However, If I do say “you are going to become aware of how easy it is to speak your truth to those you love while your body remains relaxed and sturdy”, this suggestion will immediately be inserted and “approved” into the subconscious for those who with to be more assertive and empowered.

Regression Therapy

As a hypnotist their is no greater strategy to provide healing for clients than age regression therapy.  Let me provide you with a simple metaphor to explain the capabilities and powers of regression therapy:

Direct suggestion hypnosis can be looked at as the fluids required for a car.  The car needs oil to function and gas to run.  The car also requires coolant and wiper fluid for providing safety and comfort.

However, all the fluids for the car will not be necessary or service a purpose if the engine is shot.  All the gasoline in the world won’t make a difference if the transmission needs to be repaired.

Regression hypnotherapy lifts the hood.

Through regression hypnotherapy, the client is able to go on a journey into their past by revivifying, imagining, or hallucinating traumatic experiences of the past which caused the younger version of themselves to form misconceptions and erroneous beliefs that are causing destructive behaviors and negative emotions.

I will provide a simple example:

Lets say a client experiences large amounts of social anxiety leading to an excess of alcohol in such situations.  This tendency towards alcoholism is also causing depression, weight gain, and detracting from the joyous nature of their interpersonal relationships.

Through regression hypnotherapy, the client is able to “go back” to an earlier time where they experienced these social anxieties in order to seek out the root of the problem.

If for example, at the age of 7 the client was bullied at school they may have become afraid which caused them to absorb and form beliefs about themselves and people in general:

“I am not good enough”

“People don’t like me”

“People will ultimately turn on me”

At this point the client who is psychologically divided is able to inform the younger version of themselves with the required upgraded information and beliefs which can allow them to no longer be effected by the bullying:

“Kids who don’t feel good about themselves tease others, there is nothing wrong with you”

“Just because you are bullied in this moment doesn’t mean that this will always happen.  In fact, 99.99% of your life has been spent with people that enjoy your company”

“I am a strong and valuable person”

“I can handle myself in any situation”

“People like me and enjoy my company”

Once the 7 year old is able to absorb these upgraded beliefs they are able to experience the traumatic event free of fear with upgraded beliefs in hand.  Fear and anxiety GONE.

Its important to note, regression therapy at times can be uncomfortable for the client as they are required to feel negative emotion during the healing process.

Forgiveness Of Others

As a hypnotist I understand that anger can be a wall that blocks clients from progress.  Forgiveness of others is an important mode of hypnotherapy that can fully allow clients to let go of negative feelings towards those who have wronged them or mistreated them causing suffering.

It is through the process of anger removal and forgiveness that the client is able to free themselves emotionally and at the same time absorb new perspectives leading to an upgraded sense of self.

For example, imagine a client who had a critical mother.  As a result of constant pressure and criticism the client has a low sense of self worth and is unable to maintain a healthy relationship with their mother.

During forgiveness hypnotherapy, the client is able to experience life as the mother (offender) and can truly uncover motivations for such damaging behaviors.

For example, the client will ascertain that the critical mother was only doing so in an attempt to better her daughter and make her stronger for life.  In other words, every criticism came from a place of love and an attempt to make the daughter the best she could be, and not because mom believed her daughter was unworthy.

The offending mother is then made to apologize to the daughter admitting her strategies, while they may have been detrimental, was the best she knew how.  At this point the client is able to forgive and release all anger which of course leads to a breakthrough in both the clients behaviors and self worth, and at the same time has the added benefit of improving a relationship with someone she loves more than anybody, mom.

Forgiveness Of The Self

Forgiveness of the self is a special brand of hypnotherapy that receives the client of all self hatred and guilt with regards to all the mistakes they have made in the past.

Similar to Forgiveness Of Others hypnotherapy, the client is able to experience life and speak to the “mistake making” part of them.  The power of this mode of hypnotherapy is the client has the ability to learn that the part of them that made mistakes with regard to any of their errant behaviors was simply doing so as a means of protection and self preservation.

Once the client understands that mistakes were made as a means of protection, they are then able to see that part of them that was faulty as something new, the “protective part”.  Through this understanding they are able to develop and acquire a greater sense of love for that part of them they had distaste for.  This has the benefit of raising self esteem, increasing worth, confidence, removing fear, and increasing ones quality of life in many avenues.
